Q. I have seen
dress shoe styles in leather and alligator with heavy rubber bottoms. My
question is, can I wear those for dress or just casual?
A. The heavy rubber bottoms you refer to are
called Lug Bottoms. The style of heavier and bulkier looks in sportswear
has opened an avenue for heavier bottom shoes. The dress styles in
leather, suede, or alligator can be worn not only with dressy sportswear
but with bulkier material suits, especially when worn with a mock
turtleneck sweater or polo sweater. These styles are not made to go with
dressy suits or lightweight, hard-finished suits. City Slicker has several
styles of lug bottom shoes that can be worn for sporty dress.
Q. I want to wear mustard-colored shoes with my
olive suit. What color socks should I
wear?
A. When wearing an accent color, the
first choice is to match the socks to the pant color. When you sit down
and your socks show, they should be an extension of your pants. An
alternative is to wear a multi-color sock that is olive and mustard. City
Slicker carries a large assortment of multi-colored socks to help draw
together clothing and accessory accent colors. If neither is available,
match the shoes-it beats going out with no socks.
Q. With the holidays coming, I have some parties where I would
like to wear cream-colored shoes. Can I wear them in
December?
A. With color being such an
important part of today’s fashion, new rules apply. Cream, Bone or Winter
White is a fresh color that can be worn year-around to add life to any
outfit. City Slicker carries an assortment of bone shoes and accessory
items that can add a sparkle to an outfit on these drab days of winter.
Q. I’m confused. Do I wear suede shoes in the
spring/summer or fall/winter?
A. Suede is
the reverse side of finished leather. It is brushed and finished to show
an even nap but the weight is the same as leather, so wearing suede shoes
in spring/summer is not any warmer than wearing them fall/winter.
Furthermore, spraying your suede with a suede or leather protectant will
save it from most stains that occur by fall/winter weather. Always test
the spray on an area that is not visible to see if there is any color
change and follow the manufacturer's directions for application and
ventilation.
